The local village traders met with 3 representatives of Fingal County Council last Wednesday regarding the bridge closure from Sept 12 th - October 8 th.

The traders made a number of suggestions to try and ease the burden on the local community, as the detour around the village is 5.2km for cars & 11 km for buses & HGV vehicles.

KNOW THE FACTS:

* NO Traffic will pass over the bridge for at least 2 weeks.
* NO bus routes have been agreed with Dublin bus and buses cannot use Station Road OR The Back roads.
* A 5.2km detour to reach the village from the roundabout for cars because of the low bridge.
* An 11 km detour to reach the village in a HGV along the back roads past the trotting up onto the malahide road.
* NO serviced junction on the back roads.
* NO agreement to have gardai on point duty during peak/busy times.
* As yet no visual information regarding a detour in the area, so residents can plan in advance for schools & work.

Our suggestions to Fingal Count Council are below. We need your help! Please sign so we can stand together and show Fingal that we want an alternative plan!

SUGGESTIONS:
1. Installation of a temporary bridge to the right of the bridge as you head past Texaco to the round about.

2. A total upgrade of the bridge and junction where the round about is, bringing it to two lanes, building a new half to the bridge while keeping the existing bridge open during construction, then opening the new half and closing the existing side leaving single lane traffic in operation at all time, while work is being carried out and giving access in and out of Portmarnock Village.

Suggestion 1
was deemed to be too costly for the short duration the bridge will be closed for (minimum of two weeks possibly four weeks).

suggestion 2
Which is our preferred option, in view of the fact that Fingal have granted planning permission for a major supermarket in our village, and for hundreds of new houses on Station road and Baldoyle road was completely overruled by Fingal.
