Merriam-Webster should officially remove the words, "great" "brilliant" "amazing" "tremendous" and "huge" from the dictionary, as the definitions of these words have become completely distorted. The frequent use of these words in present-day society has lead to a total lack of understanding as to what these words actually mean. Sure, one could simply look each word up in the dictionary to verify its correct and proper meaning, but...nobody really cares about facts anymore and besides, reading is only for elitists. That is why it would be much easier to just plain remove these confusing and entirely overused words from the dictionary, and from language, completely.
Here are some examples of the improper usage of these words:
"I watched yesterday, as you know, our GREAT senator who's going to be a GREAT Attorney General, and he was BRILLIANT."
"I was just watching...Rex Tillerson. I think it's BRILLIANT, what he's doing and what he's saying."
“We’re going to have an AMAZING cabinet,”
“We have some TREMENDOUS people, TREMENDOUS people that are coming on, people of GREAT distinction, GREAT success.”
"It's gonna be HUGE!"
We, the undersigned, call on Merriam-Webster to officially remove the words, "great" "brilliant" "amazing" "tremendous" and "huge" from the dictionary.
