Throughout the negotiations of 2018 IBEW 46 members called for the negotiation of modified terms for the new state sick leave law so that our membership (considered temporary or seasonal employees) could benefit from the new law just like permanent employees would. We were told that the subject would be negotiated after all contracts were settled because the matter effected all LU46 members and the solution should do the same. Now 7 months later no significant forward action has been taken. It is time to demonstrate how important these benefits are to us!
We, the undersigned, call on IBEW LU46 and all signatory contractors to negotiate terms to create an MOU for every IBEW Local 46 unit which would add to our Collective Bargaining Agreements a modified and improved version of the terms of the WA state sick leave law to provide our membership with a benefit we can all use.
The modified terms should provide:
-the ability of workers to begin using their accrued sick hours immediately after the 14th day of employment.
-the payment of any accrued hours that will not carry to the following year at the time they become unusable by the worker.
-the payment of any hours accrued and unused at the time employment ends, no matter why employment ends.
-the accrual of hours be awarded at one and one half times the normal accrual rate for all time worked at the time and one half rate of pay, and at double the normal accrual rate for all time worked at the double time rate.
-the ability to use accrued hours as PTO when the employee gives notice 14 days in advance of the first absence.
