The Minister of Community Safety should Appoint And Take Control Of The OSPCA Investigation

PETITION TO THE MINISTER OF COMMUNITY SAFETY AND CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

We, the undersigned, residents of Canada wish to bring to your attention that the events surrounding the York Region OSPCA “ringworm outbreak” have undermined the public’s confidence in the OSPCA. The OSPCA has not been transparent about the details and facts regarding their original decision to blanket euthanize 350 animals at this animal facility. They have admitted that this horrible tragedy could have been prevented had there not been a breakdown in “protocols”. As a self governing body and a charity, WE CANNOT REST ASSURED that the necessary oversight is in place if the OSPCA is allowed to conduct and self appoint an investigator.

THEREFORE, we call upon the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services to take control of this file and appoint an independent investigator who will have that report back to yourself and to the Ontario Legislature.

Public confidence CANNOT be restored if the OSPCA is allowed to commission and oversee its own investigation.
