Recently, the Clermont City Council passed a new Ordinance, creating an "Entertainment District" in Historic Downtown Clermont.

During the meeting, there were several factors that were cleverly hidden or omitted by members of the City Government in an attempt to ensure the Ordinance would pass.

The goal of this petition is to convince the City Council to adhere to the original text of the ordinance, rather than making changes after the floor was closed to public comment.

On Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 Ordinance 2016-33 was passed by the Clermont City Council. This ordinance created a new "Entertainment District" in Historic Downtown Clermont. The ordinance clearly states, "on-sidewalk possession/consumption of ANY alcoholic beverage dispensed or sold by an establishment licensed to sell alcoholic beverages is authorized Sunday through Saturday between the hours of 10am to 11pm."

After the Ordinance was read, the public was given the opportunity to voice their support or disagreement. Several local business owners voiced their strong support. AFTER the floor was closed to public comment, the Council then decided to limit the consumption to just beer and wine. This was not what the public was presented. After the meeting, a member of the City Council freely admitted to leaving that part out until after we had the opportunity to discuss it. We feel that this is an unfair and imbalanced way to govern.

Who wouldn't want to enjoy the sunset in beautiful Clermont with a mixed drink or cocktail? Some people prefer a Pina Colada to a glass of wine or a draft beer. If that is acceptable enough to be in the original ordinance, then why is it unacceptable now.

The main goal behind this petition is to have the voice of the public heard AFTER being made privy to ALL of the facts. Hopefully, with everyone's support, we can gain enough traction and turn enough heads to convince the City Council to adhere to the original terms of the Ordinance.

WE, the undersigned, call on the Clermont City Council to follow the guidelines that THEY proposed originally, and allow our voice to be heard.
