HB 304 puts restrictions on free enterprise in the United States by interfering in who businesses choose to hire. It requires businesses caught with illegal immigrants as workers to be put on probation.

During this probation period, the business owner must file quarterly reports on immigration status of all its employees. If the employer is caught with illegal immigrants as employees during a probation period, he/she can have their business license taken away all together.

This hinders the economy as a whole because if immigrants are ready, willing, and able to do these jobs to help our economy, why shouldn’t they? The American Farm Bureau claims that without guest workers, the U.S. economy would lose approximately $9 billion a year in agricultural production and 20 percent of the current production would be shifted overseas. That tells us we the profit generated by guest workers is a huge positive for our economy.

Another reason we are opposed to this bill is that there are already federal laws in place that have put into effect what HB 304 is trying to accomplish.

Therefore, we are asking for your help in halting this uneccessary and redundant bill.

We, the undersigned, oppose the consideration of HB 304. It prohibits the existence of true free enterprise in the United States by putting limits on who businesses can hire.

It attempts to duplicate a federal law that already exists in the form of a state law. Instating more legislation that further penalizes businesses and, ultimately, the economy will not solve anything.

So we ask again that the journey of HB 304 be cut short with the consideration of this petition.
