We the undersigned hereby affirm our demand that the suspect in Case No: Boksburg North CAS 523/9/15 must NOT be granted bail for the following reasons:

• He is a re-offender – the suspect had apparently been arrested previously on related charges, but subsequently released only to continue committing horrific crimes against children, including the 4 year old daughter of his girlfriend at the time.

• The State MUST ensure that this suspect remains in custody for the State to ensure that he does not re-offend and hurt another child as well as ensure the safety of his child victims and their families who reside here and whose whereabouts he is familiar with.

Background to this case:
The suspect allegedly took nude photographs of his girlfriend's four-year-old daughter and shared them online with users as far as the USA. The South African Police Service (Gauteng FCS Unit) were notified of his illegal activities after being detected by Homeland Security in the USA.

The 39-year-old man was arrested at his workplace on Wednesday September 30, 2015 when members of the Gauteng FCS Unit established he had child sexual abuse material (child pornography) on his laptop and had and shared them online.

His house was subsequently raided and several laptops, external hard drives, cell phones, memory cards, a DVD, Play Station console and a mini spy-camera, believed to be his, were seized.

Unfair Court Proceedings

On 2 October 2015 as reported by News 24, no media or members of the public were allowed to sit in on the first appearance of the Boksburg car salesman who has been charged with possession, manufacturing and distributing child pornography at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court.

This decision taken by the court has restricted the public and the media’s involvement in following this case and during court proceedings on 23 March 2016, the court was again cleared by the prosecutor, and Women And Men Against Child Abuse representatives and media members had to wait outside.

The suspect’s defence attorney, Mr Du Preez, then argued that the suspect should be released on bail as there was no public interest in this case!

Every Image is a Crime Scene!
 Child abuse materials (child pornography) are documented evidence of a crime in progress, namely a child being raped, sexually abused and tortured - these are materials which will continue to abuse, degrade and exploit children portrayed as sexual objects.
 The viewer is aiding and abetting that process, by providing a market for the material and for making evident a demand of a permanent record of a crime. Distributing and viewing child abuse materials, therefore, ensures the continued and even increased availability of the pictures.
 Once a photograph is digitized and distributed on the Internet, it can be perfectly reproduced endlessly by anyone in possession of it and is impossible to destroy or delete.
 Sexual offences against children are worse than murder, for in the case of a murder the suffering of the victim was ended. In the case of a crime against a child, the person will suffer for the rest of his/her life.

Therefore, as concerned citizens and public interest groups, we demand that the courts hand down maximum sentencing to punish child abusers and the consumers of child pornography as an effective prevention strategy against child rape and abuse and this petition serves to reaffirm our commitment and interest in this case – WE OPPOSE BAIL!
