North Tribeca Against 2AM Liquor-Selling Establishments

This petition is for reasonable modifications and conditions for approval in the application for a liquor license for 412 Greenwich Street (an application submitted by restauranteur Tom Gialamboukis; aka Tom Galis); for a presumed sister restaurant of "The Greek."

In the liquor license application, proposed hours of operation for the establishment at 412 Greenwich Street are posted as 7AM - 2AM Sunday - Thursday and 7AM - 4AM Friday and Saturday; herein lies our issue.

By signing this online petition, residents are voicing their concern over an establishment that would be open and serving liquor until 2AM during the week and until 4AM during the weekend. Serving liquor during these extended hours will, without question, bring excessive unwanted pedestrian noise and unwanted potential for late night disturbance, as well as an increase in taxi and car traffic on our cobble stone streets until near dawn.

We are therefore requesting that CB1 adjust the operating hours of Mr. Galis's liquor license proposal to hours that reflect those of similar establishments in the neighborhood. For example:

In addition to a modification in the liquor-serving operating hours, we are also requesting that CB1 require this establishment to meet the following reasonable conditions:

1) the establishment will employ a mutually agreeable acoustic engineer to conduct sound and bass testing in affected surrounding residential apartments and will implement its recommendations to insure that sound and bass is inaudible in apartments;
2) the establishment will close any façade doors and windows by 10PM every night;
3) the establishment will propose a solution to the Board at 71 Laight St. for expedited trash removal during normal business hours; and
4) the establishment will provide a telephone number for residents in the immediate surrounding areas to call with complaints and immediately address any resident complaints.

We’d like to be clear: this petition is not an attack on the owners or the staff at The Greek. To the contrary, the majority of signors of this petition adore The Greek and everything about it: the charming atmosphere that changes each season, the authentic and delicious Greek fare, and the extraordinary staff -- it is a special place that we cherish having in our neighborhood and we are excited for its proposed expansion.

** Please note: This petition will be submitted to Community Board 1 on September 14th, 2016 for consideration, including a list of comparable establishments in the neighborhood and their standard operating hours.
