Target:
Smithsonian Museum Coucil for The National Museum of African American History and Culture
Region:
United States of America

The current name given by the Smithsonian Museum is a misnomer and will serve to further falsely classify the group of people and the culture and history it is to represent.

The term "African American" is a codified political and legal rendering of a group of people with definite national ancestry and position within their country of origin.

The term "African American" is a compound word made of a name of a continent (Africa) and a general reference to a native of the Americas (American). The name "African American" was adopted by popular consensus by organizations as mentioned in The New York Times article 'African-American' Favored By Many of America's Blacks" By ISABEL WILKERSON, Special to the New York Times
Published: January 31, 1989. A quote from the article states "A movement led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson to call blacks African-Americans has met with both rousing approval and deep-seated skepticism in a debate that is coming to symbolize the role and history of blacks in this country."

Note that the word "black" is not capitalized, indicating that it is not a noun, therefore not representing a people. Although it is a change from previous legal classifications of it's people, it falls short of the purpose of a national name and does not go towards identifying the true nationality, heritage and birth rights of its' people. The legal status of someone who claims the names, so called "African American", "negro", colored or black is termed in Black's Law Dictionary as civilitter mortuus (civilly dead in law).

Why then should the name "African American" be placed on a memorial, an object of National remembrance, when it has a connotative name with no history beyond its' adoption in 1990, which is not contemporary with the dates, times and events it is to be associated within the history of The United States Of America, Inc. (1854-1990-present). It states to people in the country and the nations of the earth that Moorish culture and history can be erased with brands and slogans and we acquiesce and accept being stripped of our birth right by default.

We, the undersigned, strongly suggest the changing of the name from The National Museum of The African American and Culture to The National Museum of Moorish History and Culture. With direct reference and inclusion of Nobel Drew Ali, founder of the Moorish Science Temple of America. (1913)
