The Monster Equality Campaign was set up for several reasons:

To educate the public about the discrimination monsters often face.
To provide support for monsters who are victims of inequality.
To campaign for changes in the law and attitudes.

Since 2001, we have worked tirelessly to achieve these goals and witnessed a monumental victory in July 2013, when Glasgow City Council (Scotland) agreed to allow a legal marriage between two monsters.

The campaign goes on however, and examining the following statistics makes us ever more determined to fight for equality.

76% of parents would not attend a monster child’s wedding.

93% of monsters have faced harassment, bullying and intimidation.

There is no legislation anywhere in the world which force establishments to make their premises monster accessible (drip trays for slime, automatic doors which detect tails, etc.).

2/3 of monsters feel unsafe in public.

99% of portrayals of monster in film, television and music are negative.

90% of monster children feel their education is not comparable to that of human children.

It is legal to ask a monster to leave your establishment on the grounds of their appearance.

Our current projects include:

Lobbying for monster accessible public buildings, with mandatory slime drip trays, tail detecting doors, notices designed for multiple eye positions, flame retardant fixtures for our fire breathing friends, and claw-proof furniture.

Campaigning for the right of monsters to marry.

Supporting the first monster couple to legally marry on Halloween this year, protecting them from violent hate campaigns.

We call on all governments in the world to end the twin bans on monster marriages and civil partnerships. In a democratic society, everyone should be equal before the law.

This means opening up civil marriages and civil partnerships in register offices and other licensed premises to all couples, gay, heterosexual and monsters, without discrimination.

The Monster Equality petition to Monster Equality was written by Monster Equality and is in the category Civil Rights at GoPetition.
