The introduction of lower speed limits for Main Roads and Highways going through high traffic areas reduces the efficiency of our road transport network. 50 and 40 kmph speed limits are too low for main roads.
Main roads should be respected as important arteries for transport. Safety issues relating to speed of traffic need to be address by other means like separation and diversion where appropriate.
We the undersigned call on the State Governments of Australia to impose a minimum speed limit of 60kmph on all Australian main Roads and Highways.
