Many people have been hit while in crosswalks along Center St. The posted speed limit is 35 as it is a residential area, however, cars reach high speeds and it's extremely busy no matter the time of day. No one stops for people in the crosswalks and when they do, car accidents happen or worse, critical injuries and/or death.
Midvale crosswalks need to be updated to protect pedestrians and bicyclists. Many car accidents, many critically injured people and bicyclists have been hit, most resulted in death, while in crosswalks. There are 3 major crosswalks between Main St and State St, which is 7 blocks. We have UTA Trax station, multiple schools and now a large apartment complex built right off of Center St. A lot of foot traffic at any time of day. Speed limit is 35 but no one abides by this and police rarely patrol to pull people over. Most recent ped vs auto accident happened right in front of our eyes. We have a front row seat to all of this daily. She, Jadyn Slesser, 16 years old, is in a coma going on 3 weeks. The car never hit the brakes when it plowed through her as she neared the end of the crosswalk. Please help to push Midvale City to upgrade these crosswalks so no one else is hurt or killed. Within 10 blocks of my home, there is a safe crosswalk that stops traffic when pedestrians are crossing. It is at a Trax station and was added because of high foot traffic for a business, Gardner Village. This should be at all crosswalks on heavily traveled streets. During morning and evening commutes, it's like standing next to a freeway. It's dangerous!
