Australia

In late October 2011 McDonald's Australia submitted a planning application to construct and operate a restaurant in a residential street (38-44 Board Street) in Deagon, Brisbane.

Adjoining homes and equine stables will be significantly and adversely impacted by issues related to child and aged person safety, home security, anti social behaviour, light and noise pollution, and loss of community identity.

There is already a McDonald's restaurant within 5-10 minutes of this site in Bracken Ridge. Existing commercial premises in Braun Street, Deagon are more appropriate for, and dedicated to, restaurant activity. The immediate (i.e. 1km) area is already more than comfortably serviced by Red Rooster, KFC, Dominos, Pizza Capers, and numerous privately-owned and franchised businesses.

There are NO traffic calming measures to support increased traffic and throughput through the narrow surrounding streets to this site, and there will be significant risks to child safety in this precinct.

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the application by McDonald's Australia to construct & operate a restaurant in Board Street, Deagon.

We formally request that Brisbane City Council reject the application in its entirety and irrespective of any amendments to the submitted application and its conditions.
