Put a 4-way stop at the intersection of Plum and 2nd Street in Doniphan

The Doniphan-Trumbull 5th period senior government class is engaging in a Change Project. We have decided to try and change the 2-way stop to a 4-way stop at the intersection of Plum and 2nd street. There are already two stop signs going North and South giving the East and West the right away.

When school is in session and cars are parked on the street, it makes a blind intersection. The cars heading South on 2nd cannot see if there is another driver coming towards them driving East. There have been numerous incidents resulting in near accidents because of this blind intersection and this is why we believe it is necessary to change it.

We have asked Doniphan-Trumbull students how they feel about the new addition and out of 67 responses, 67.2% agree that the change will be beneficial. 46.3% of Doniphan- Trumbull students claim it is a blind intersection when cars are parked there and are guessing if a car is coming or not. We have estimated that cost of the signs are going to be roughly between $90-$100 each.

We also estimate the cost of labor and installation being roughly about $50, making out a total estimated cost of between $150-$250. We have come up with a few ways of fundraising and involving the community; a dodge ball tournament, cook out, movie night, and similar activities have been discussed depending on the interest of the town and Town Board.
