My son, a 12 year old middle school student at Appomattox Middle School resorted to attempted suicide because of bullying and it could have been prevented if the school, who claims to have an anti bullying policy, stepped up and took care of the situation before it resorted to this.

The school and staff need to punish children who bully when it is reported, not just a stern talking to. It won't stop unless it's punished.

My son is petrified to go to school now because of this.

It is unacceptable.

We the undersigned are calling on our state government to make bullying a crime punishable by law.

It is requested that this act be deemed a class 3 misdemeanor which is punishable by a fine and up to 2 days in a detention center. It should also be defined as a class 2 misdemeanor if the bulliee is contemplating suicide (which can be classified as manslaughter) and if the person(s) succeeded in the act, should be punishable by law as a manslaughter charge.

This should be implemented as soon as the first report has been made, and parents should be aware immediately that their child is involved in a bullying investigation.
