Travel taxes or taxes on airfares are becoming very high and contribute to almost 50% of the ticket price. It is increasing the financial burden on families travelling overseas to see their relatives or for holidays.
On an average, a family of 4 members may pay approximately $750 per ticket per adult as taxes on top of an average of $1500-2000 ticket price. The total cost of buying tickets for such family may range between $6000-8000. For larger families, it becomes almost impossible to save enough money to pay for the tickets alone. That is not to include all other travel expenses.
How would an Australian family with an average income be able to save such amount of money given all the other expenses and taxes they pay and the continual rise of the cost of living?
We, the undersigned, call on the Federal Government to lower taxes on international air travel to reduce the burden on Australian families.
