With winter approaching I can't be the only person who's worried about the price of the gas and electricity I'm going to need. Meanwhile the companies that sell it it to me are rubbing their hands together about all the profits they're going to make (remember recently that guy from eon saying that price rises were good because it meant more profits) and it's only going to get worse – as someone said 'they're not making oil and gas anymore'.
Other companies have sold us appliances that guzzle this energy, even when we're not using them, which we didn't notice when electricity was cheap, but is really going to hurt now. Together these companies have acted like a drug pusher – given us something cheap, let us get hooked on it then bump up the price. It's about time we told this 'energy mafia' where to get off.
The government should bring in a windfall tax on gas and electricity companies and give the money to local communities to make their own electricity – this can provide jobs for local people and electricity whose price won't go up because it doesn't use fuel from Russia or the middle east sold to us by greedy German or french multinational companies.
