In Freetown, Sierra Leone, the Central One Constituent boasts of several renowned historical relics/monuments. They include several Churches and educational institutions, the Museum, the Presidential State House, the House of Parliment, the renowned Victoria Park, the Central Library, and City and Paramount Hotels, respectively, to name a few.
We must note, however, that the current living condition of most Central One residents requires immediate attention by The Freetown City Council. Our hopes are to restore Central One to its former "glory"; where streets were passable/spotless; where our young boys looked forward to playing football or riding their bicycles at Victoria Park (the "Park") on Sundays; where every Secondary School chose to end their annual Thanksgiving Service marchpass at the Park; where parents and kids strolled its streets for a leisure walk; and, where kids looked forward to the annual exhibition/bazaar at the Park.
It is, imperative, therefore, that we call upon The Mayor, The Freetown City Council, and Central One Elected Official(s), to join the residents at home, and in the diaspora, to address these dire concerns. Our Central One neighborhoods need to be restored, and maintained for our future generations.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Mayor, The Freetown City Council, and all other related parties, to kindly consider the following:
1) cleaning of the entire Central One Constituent for health/sanitation reasons;
2) removal/relocation of all street traders, (if not already implemented by WID), to designated marketplaces such as the Regent Road market;
3) relocating the present transportation (poda-poda) parking lot to its origins at Garrison St.; and
4) requesting quarterly town hall meetings with Central One Elected Official(s), and its residents.
These meetings will ensure dailogue and open communication. Discussions will include, (but not limited to), issues pertaining to the welfare and living conditions of ALL Central One residents.
