Health & Sports Works (HSW) has been in charge of programs and the Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center (HFFA) almost since HFFA opened. In that time, HSW has brought several world diving and synchronized swimming events (bringing thousands of people to our town), developed the largest Kids' Triathlon in the country, sponsored countless health and fitness programs and created daycare programs, daily programs for seniors, initiated construction improvements, worked on community relationships and so much more.
In the midst of a 5-year contract, the current Huntersville Town Board has asked for bidders for the contract, without a formal notice to HSW, without a performance evaluation, and is currently considering the bids of two other entities -- one from out of state, another a close friend of an elected official.
Losing HSW would cause taxpayer dollars to be spent on contract penalities and potential litigation. It would cause nearly 100 local employees to potentially be out of employment. It would cause the loss of sponsorships (that offset expenses) and programming and a reputation that has been built over decades.
We, the Undersigned, want the Huntersville Town Board to hear our voices loud and clear: Keep the current contract. Keep Huntersville's reputation intact for good and decent business practices. Keep Health & Sports Works in place to continue the programming and employment and sponsorships that this community has come to enjoy. Leave well enough alone!
