Socialist Alternative are a political activist group on campus. This political group believes that they have the right to ambush other students to express their ideas. One such method is attending lectures and tutorials and in the few moments before classes technically start, preaching at the students in the room. They are known to use "alternative facts" to try and convince students to join them.
While Socialist Alternative has a right to free speech, we as students of the university have the right to not be forced to listen. When our options are either being late or skipping classes OR being forced to listen to their radical tirades, this impacts learning we are paying for. This should not be acceptable in any educational environment.
We, the undersigned, call on the University of Adelaide to stop Socialist Alternative and other political organisations from disrupting the learning environment of their institution by banning them from activism in classroom settings, including the 10 minute preparation time between classes.
