On March 10, 1977, Sharon Blankenbeckler disappeared from the K-Martparking lot in Marion, VA. Her body was discovered on April 8, 1977, near Highway 16 on the North Side of Walker's Mountain- her body was 12 to 15 feet from the shoulder of the road. Sharon's hands were still bound behind her back and a rope was still around her neck, she had been strangled and left on the mountain about a month. Sharon was only 20 years old and just starting her life.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge Smyth County Sheriff's Department to reopen this investigation and submit all evidence to the crime lab for review of DNA analysis, reinterview all witnesses and suspects in this investigation as new information may be available.
