Republic Act 8972 (RA 8972) or the Solo Parent Welfare Act of 2000 identifies 10 Classifications who is a Solo Parent. The OFWs are not part of these classifications.
On May 31, 2017 an amendment to RA 8972 will be filed in the Senate of the Philippines. If you are an OFW, Solo Parent, or a family of an OFW or Solo Parent and would want to include OFWs in the classification of Solo Parents, then please sign this petition so we can attach it to our recommendations for the amendments of RA 8972.

We would like to include the following amendment on who is a Solo Parent:

The spouse of any parent who is legally deployed as an OFW with a contract of at least one (1) year shall be considered a solo parent; provided that the departing OFW must sign an agreement that in case it is proven that he/she is guilty of abandonment, neglect, or extra marital affairs, 80% of his/her net income shall be withheld and turned over to the family in the Philippines.
