At Nova Southeastern University (NSU) one of the many core values is Diversity. University administration define that as follows: including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, philosophy, gender, physical, socioeconomic status, age and sexual orientation. Difference in viewpoint, interpretation, and reaction derived from diversity are important. Diversity enriches a learning environment focused on preparing individuals to live and work in a global society. These points beg the question, why is there not yet an office dedicated to promoting the core value of diversity across Nova Southeastern University’s population? As of now, there is no office whose purpose is to foster the growth and host events, celebrations, and multicultural holidays of the multicultural population of NSU that are representative of over 100 countries from around the world. As of now, the vast majority of multicultural events on campus are hosted by Organizations comprised of students from these various cultures. Unfortunately, if these student organizations do not hold these important cultural events themselves, the current Student Affairs Administration would not celebrate the multicultural population. There is no budget in existence specifically allocated for Multicultural Student Organizations to host multicultural events on campus and because of this multicultural organizations, and by proxy - the students that make them up – suffer. A dedicated Minority Diversity Affairs Office will have a positive impact on the university’s new and returning student retention rate. A Minority Diversity Affairs Office will have a lasting and noticeably positive impact on recruitment for minority students interested in attending Nova Southeastern University both in the near and distant future. A Minority Diversity Affairs Office will bridge the diverse population gap between the Graduate and Undergraduate students across all majors of study. Nova Southeastern University and its student body needs a Minority Diversity Affairs Office.

We, the undersigned, call on the Vice President of Student Affairs and the, Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies to implement a Minority Diversity Affairs Office at Nova Southeastern University. 1. We would like the University to allocate money from its existing budget(s) to fund the creation and maintenance of the Minority Diversity Affairs Office. 2. We would like the demographics of the Minority Diversity Affairs Office to represent that of the minority multicultural population at NSU. 3. We would like the programming of the Minority Diversity Affairs Office to acknowledge all appropriate minority holidays, cultural events, and days of cultural or ethnic significance.
