Andrey Nekrasov, a Russian journalist persecuted by the Putin's regime for his political views, was detained on 15 July, 2015 upon his arrival to Cyprus at the Larnaca International Airport on an international arrest warrant issued by Russia, and is remanded in custody awaiting extradition proceeding scheduled for 13 August, 2015.
Andrey Nekrasov fled Russia to escape imminent imprisonment in connection with his journalism and activism. In Lithuania, he was granted a residence permit while his refugee application lodged with the Lithuanian authorities is pending.
We demand that Andrey Nekrasov be immediately released from custody, as his detention is in violation of the Dublin Regulation whereby the state through which the asylum seeker first entered the EU is the responsible state, and in the case of Mr. Nekrasov it is Lithuania.
