The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) writes the rules and requirements for participation in sports at public high schools in Georgia. According to their Constitution and BY-Laws, only students enrolled in the public high school are eligible to compete for that school on sports teams. This prevents home schooled students from being able to participate in their local school district. By preventing these students from trying out, you limit the amount that each family of home schooled kids can participate in the community. There are limited options and teams for home schooled children, so by denying them access to public school teams' sports you complicate their ability to get involved and stay active.
We, Sydney Bell and Emmary Koening, call on the local participants who are active with the Greater Area Oconee Lacrosse to help persuade the GHSA to alter the rules and eligibility of home schooled students to allow their participation in local schools' sports.
