Health care costs are quickly outpacing the ability of ordinary Americans to pay for them.
As a result, Americans are suffering from an unprecedented drop in their standard of living.
The following initiative will achieve two objectives: first, being more progressive with respect to the protection of intellectual property rights and, second, providing a fund for the payment of health care costs.
We, the undersigned, call upon the United States Congress to reduce the copyright protection for entertainment intellectual property from the current "life of the author plus 70 years" to 20 years - the same amount of time for drug patents.
Beginning at year 21, all royalties from entertainment intellectual property (such as those from music, movies and television) will be placed in a national trust and used to fund health care initiatives, such as providing insurance to the middle class and poor.
