Free meals for the Elderly

Did you know that it costs a pensioner on average 84 pounds a month for community meals (or meals on wheels) and they have to do this without any financial help from government or local councils. When they have been assessed and deemed unable to cook for them selves they have also been presented with a financial burden.

Now it seems in some boroughs of the country that not only have they got this financial burden but also that they are faced with having to eat frozen processed meals, which also means they have to cook it for them selves and that of course contradicts the assessments that are done by council officers who have deemed them incapable of cooking for them selves.

In other words the council are going for the CHEAP DEAL for the council but its still the same cost to the consumer, plus the added cost of storing the meals in a freezer, plus gas and electricity for cooking and the added cost of homecare coming round to cook it.

At the moment the Meals on Wheels service providing Hot Fresh Meals is at least an assured way that the consumer gets a hot meal, plus a daily visit from the driver, but under the frozen option its 1 visit every 2 weeks with the delivery of frozen meals. So in other words they get less of a service for their money under the frozen option.

So I have started an online petition at the downing street web page proposing that Government and Councils provide these people with Fresh Hot meals free of charge so as to ensure that our elderly and frail people get a hot solid meal every day.
