Over the past number of years the incidents of deer poaching at night have greatly increased. In some areas of Ireland we have gangs of men driving around with large caliber rifles taking pot shots at deer. This is not only very dangerous for the public, as recent cases have shown, but is also decimating our deer population.
At present, a large number of conservation ranger posts are vacant, with some county's having only one ranger on the ground. This means poachers have very little chance of getting caught. Filling these posts would be a start in combating this problem, before were talking about a person getting shot and not just deer.
We, the undersigned, call on Minister Heather Humphreys T.D to fill all vacant Conservation Ranger posts.
