Target:
The Elected Officials of the Town of Barnstable
Region:
United States of America

We the citizens of the Town of Barnstable feel curfews violate American values. Businesses deserve the right to operate at all hours of profitability and citizens deserve the right to purchase goods and services when it is most convenient.

Not all citizens are employed during the standard 9 AM to 5 PM work day. As a result, these people are denied basic conveniences such as fueling their cars and purchasing food. The list of burdened citizens includes but is not limited to the employees of hotels, restaurants, bars, and retail stores.

The issue has become more urgent given the nations current economic problems We feel burdening comanies with time constraints undermines the national effort to stimulate our economy. The lost business activity results in fewer jobs and decreased tax revenue for the town, state and country.

The law was implimented without a vote by the citizens. We feel that the majority of the people of Barnstable disagree with this legislation. Part of its justification was to limit illegal activities in parking lots throughout the town. This type of activity should be fought with police action, not curfews that burden law abiding citizens.

It the spirit of freedom we strive to end the business curfew in Barnstable. We ask that the elected officials of Barnstable stand behind our effort to bring this issue to a vote via a ballot question.

We, the undersigned, ask that you, the elected officials of Barnstable, stand behind our efforts to eliminate the business curfew in the Town of Barnstable. We ask that you support our ballot question when it appears in an upcoming election.
