#Law Reform
Target:
Idaho Legislature
Region:
United States of America

Due to the rising popularity of motorized bicycles because of rising fuel prices, we in the motorized bicycle community desire a reform in motor bicycle definitions. Motorized bicycles are the motorcycle's ancestors, being originally started and propelled using pedals. With the innovation of a purpose specific motorcycle, the popularity has fallen. However in recent years, more and more motorized bicycles have been built, sold, and operated by the public as a secondary mode of transportation. In today's world, motorized bicycles are restricted from traveling with traffic, being incapable of traveling faster than 30 mph. This creates unsafe conditions where an inattentive driver can cause a wreck at speed. If motorized bicycles are able to travel with traffic, these risks are reduced, and these vehicles can be operated more safely if emergency maneuvers are required.

We, the undersigned, desire the definitions of a motorized bicycle to be changed from a moped or scooter to any vehicle using pedals and/or an engine for primary propulsion, traveling on not more than three wheels and not less than two, with an engine not larger than 80cc, capable of traveling not more than 45 mph on flat land with not more than one degree incline in any direction. This vehicle may have a manual or automatic transmission with not more than seven gears. This vehicle will require a standard class D license to operate.
