Mission: To see that each child reaches their highest potential whatever that may be.
The following are concerns we have for this third grade class:
*Percentage of students below grade level
*Academic growth not bridging the gap
*Class not at the point in curriculum where they should be at this time of year.
*Behavior issues
*Emotional needs
*Social needs
*Time being spent addressing disturbances and redirecting students taking away teaching time
*Young age of students
We, the undersigned, request the consideration for a fourth section when these students enter fourth grade.
We need a solution that will decrease distractions, help students stay on task, address many unique learning styles in the class and provide extra support for students and teachers.
We ask that you consider the following when making this decision:
*Use report cards as a gauge of the academic needs of the students as this provides a better overall picture.
*Speak with the following staff members at Westfield regarding the behavioral issues and emotional/social needs of these students:
Third grade teachers
Second grade teachers
First grade teachers
Kindergarten teachers
Specials teachers
Lunchroom staff
Mrs. Shanahan
Mrs. Stickney
Mr. Rogers
*Video monitor classrooms to observe time being spent redirecting students.
