Appalachian power has failed to properly maintain the power lines by clearing brush and trees within their right of way.
This failure has resulted in thousands of customers in their coverage areas to routinely loose service for extended periods of time. Because of these outages, customers have taken monetary damages in food spoilage, generator purchases, gasoline purchases, propane and supplemental heat purchases, as well as lost wages from time away from work to tend to their homes.
Some have even experienced robbery and looting during the outages. Appalachian power, like many utility companies, have a monopoly over the customers in their service areas. This lack of competition has made the company apathetic in their maintenance of the utility which has had a direct monetary impact on the customers within their service areas.
These damages need to be remedied, and the company held liable. This repercussional motivation should be enough to spur the company into action so that future problems may be avoided and customers can receive the service for which they are paying.
For those of us who are fed up with the apparent apathy of Appalachian Power and their refusal to properly maintain their utility by keeping the power lines clear of overhanging limbs and brush, please sign this petition.
This petition will be sent to our state representative in hopes that state attorneys will force Appalachian Power to provide proof of adequate maintenance practices.
If it can be deemed that adequate proof is unavailable or proof of gross neglect, resulting in customer monetary loss, can be obtained, then monetary reimbursement for customers and proper maintenance practices for Appalchain power can hopefully be pursued.
