I, Cecil W. Hamilton, otherwise known as "Sappy' along with other residents of Botetourt Co in Virginia would like to present this petition to State Legislation and Lawmakers to change or alter the suspension height on multi-purpose 4x4 vehicles. After doing extensive research on height restrictions in all 50 states in the United States I found that approximately 75% or more than 30 of our 50 states doesn't have restrictions on the suspension height of multi- purpose 4x4 vehicles.

The information was gathered from the Liftlaws.com website that provides the information for every state. Some of those states are in the biggest markets of our country those include, New York, Florida, Texas, and even our nations capital D.C. One of our neighboring states North Carolina doesn't have suspension modifications laws for trucks or multi-purpose vehicles with special features for off road use. In those markets where some of the heaviest traffic travels on a daily basis. I haven't been able to find any significant fatalities from those states that were caused because a vehicles suspension had been altered. I know the difference it is to drive a lifted vehicle on a daily basis.

It requires being more alert because of braking distance is needed to stop them once bigger tires are put on. Myself driving lifted vehicles has been a benefit. I was in a near fatal head on collision with a passenger car. The accident wasn't my fault and if I wasn't driving my 1989 lifted F-150 I could've possibly been killed. Because the suspension on my truck had been altered the impact of the passenger car hit under my front bumper actually hitting the front axle. If my truck had been stock I could've possibly been killed because the impact would've been more direct on the front of my truck.

I consider myself lucky in that one. The other accident I was t-boned on the drivers side of another lifted truck I owned by an out of control van. With my truck being lifted the impact from the van was lower on my truck than it would've been on a stock vehicle. Having lifted trucks is a hobby of ours and we take a great amount of pride in them. Some being shown in local car/truck shows. We also feel that we have become the target of law officers. Myself along with other residents of Botetourt Co appreciate everyone taking time to read this. All input is welcome whether it be locally or from other states.

Hopefully this will be a big step in having the height restriction laws changed in the State of Virginia.

We, residents of Botetourt County located in Southwest Virginia, call on the State Legislation and Lawmakers to change the restrictions on vehicle suspension height altered by the installation of lift kits.
