Change Sebonac Road Speed Limit to 30 mph

We the residents of Sebonac Road, and local community members of the Town of Southampton, believe that the current 40 MPH speed limit on Sebonac Road is far too high for this wholly residential street. It encourages motorists to routinely speed on this road at speeds greater than 50mph. Therefore, we petition the Town Community Board to reduce the speed limit on Sebonac road to a maximum of 30 MPH.

Drivers typically speed through this narrow 2-way residential street, with many curves and blind spots, at speeds consistently over 50mph. This is a safety hazard to all residents, especially children of all ages who are playing nearby the road and often traveling to and from the Tuckahoe school nearby on Magee Street. These speeds and reckless driving on Sebonac road pose a significant threat to motorists and also an increasing number of pedestrians, bikers, and families with children who reside and play on this street.

Further, reducing the limit to 30MPH will make the speed limit on Sebonac Road consistent with nearby residential roads in the surrounding area, including Magee Street, Tuckahoe Lane, and Barkers Island Road.

It is our intention to present this common-sense proposal to change the speed limit on Sebonac Road to 30 MPH to the Town of Southampton Community board for consideration this Spring. Thank you for supporting this petition and for making your voice heard!
