Change the law to force clients to pay their trades

Tradies of Australia are being ripped off or not paid at all on a daily basis. The current system in place does not protect trades people (in the real world) from consumers or builders who think they can have work done for free. It is completely unfair on the honest trades people of Australia who are trying to make ends meet and continuously working ridiculous hours to try to make up for the dishonest people not paying their bills. The media try to make tradies look bad saying they are earning huge amounts of money, portraying a so called "Rich List" of trades and making it out like the charge out rate is what a trades person takes home when the reality is that the costs of running a mobile business take most of that rate away leaving the tradesman with a very small profit if any. This profit gets taken away by the people not paying their bill and taking full advantage of the current law system in place. In the real world there is nothing we can do without risking the loss of further amounts of money and it taking a toll on our mental health having to follow up and chase clients who do not pay. If someone steals from a shop, they can get charged with theft but if we go to somebody's home and install our materials and the customer then demands we leave the property without payment, we must leave or face a trespassing charge . Our politicians need to do more to protect the biggest industry in Australia and hold the dishonest people accountable for their actions. This has gone on too long.
