The unfortunate and sad event that occurred at about 3:43 pm on Sunday June 3, 2012 has left a burden in our hearts and put our nation in shock.

It is very astonishing to know that the management of the airline knew about the unworthiness of the aircraft to fly but preferred to risk several lives that were on board due to their greediness and a disregard to human lives.

It is noteworthy that this same aircraft has had mechanical issues for two weeks and nothing was done to circumvent the crash. The nation is now left to think 'had it been....'.

We are a nation, deserving of the basic needs of life, not just electricity and good roads-which we do not have, but also making sure human lives are valued. If and only if our leaders begin to put human lives first will the nation progress.

It is to this effect that we the citizens of Nigeria and particularly the undersigned are calling for the resignation of the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and the Nigeria's Aviation minister.

The inability of these offices to ensure proper tests and check of aircraft before every flight shows that there is a massive loophole in our aviation sector.

A leader is a servant, one who leads his people with wisdom. There is no use having these leaders in the aviation sector if they cannot handle the responsibilities required of the office nor ensure each and everyone involved with the aviation sector does his/her duties.

We do not need your tears, we need you to vacate the office.
