Bernard Jordan, a retired Royal Navy Officer who served in WW2, captured the Nation’s hearts on June 5th 2014 when he escaped his Sussex care home to join comrades in Normandy to commemorate the D- day Landings.
His resourcefulness, courage and resolve was truly inspirational and deserves the utmost respect.
The sad news today of his death, in my humble opinion should be honoured as that of a man who was quite clearly an exemplary ambassador for both his generation and this nation.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Honours and Appointments Secretariat at the Cabinet Office to award the distinguished Title of MBE to the late Bernard Jordan, former British Royal Navy Officer.
Quite clearly, Bernard Jordan was a determined man who exuded great 'Spirit' and 'doggedness' borne from a different era to which all of us owe so much.
We are humbled by him and respectfully request the Appointments Secretariat support our nomination for who was a True ' Great Briton'.
