The Goal. To put an end to the rampant abuse of animals in China and India by urging government to put a ban on leather imported from those two countries.
The Problem. Every year, the global leather industry kills billions of animals just so that their skins can be tanned and made into leather. India and China are two of the biggest exporters of leather in the world, and both countries are known to have inadequate laws that focus on the protection and care of animals. In India, where cows are thought to be sacred animals, illegal tanneries exist in many parts of the country. Thousands of cows are forced to walk with their eyes covered in tobacco or chili and their tails broken. The same horrors also happen in China, where millions of cows, pigs, and other animals are slaughtered for their skins. They are forced into tiny cages before they are skinned alive or killed first, if they are lucky.
The Solution. India and China are only able to get away with all the abuse because the demand for imported leather continues to be on the rise. Eliminate the demand and both countries will be forced to seek other revenue channels and, hopefully, put an end to all the animal abuse and cruelty.
