From 1915-1923 the Ottoman Turks killed one and a half million Armenians, of which most consider the first genocide of the 20th century and many historians believe this event was a major influences to Adolph Hitlers holocaust.

The United States of America and Turkey despite pressure from other European countries do not formally call this event a genocide and thus in effect is stopping the process of promoting tolerance, understanding and is stopping action from being taken in regions today where genocide is occurring daily.

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) and Senate Democratic Whip Richard Durbin (D-IL) recently introduced Armenian Genocide legislation (S.Res.320) in the U.S. Senate.

This measure reaffirms the U.S. record on the Armenian Genocide and calls on the President "to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide and the consequences of the failure to realize a just resolution."

Despite opposition from the Turkish lobby and the Administration, the House International Relations Committee overwhelmingly adopted both measures on September 15th. This approval sets the stage for the consideration of Armenian Genocide legislation by the full House of Representatives - but only if the top leadership of the House, allows a vote to take place.

We are asking that a vote is allowed to take place and that if it is passed that the United States not only follows through with the legislation but puts pressure on the Turkish government to accept what they deny as genocide.

We, Armenians or not, want the genocide of 1915 to be recognized.
