The Westbrook2025 Progress Group (W2025) is a collection of passionate community members who are committed to the realisation of a public swimming pool/leisure centre complex for Westbrook, and surrounding areas.
One of our most immediate concerns is to garner commitment from the councillors for TRC. We are hoping to create not only community awareness and interest, but also to initiate a solid sign of official support for the swimming pool and leisure centre this community needs.
W2025 believes that the construction and operation of a swimming and leisure facility will generate significant health and other community benefits to all members of the local and surrounding areas.
We, the undersigned citizens feel there is a current need for a new aquatics facility in the Westbrook region. We feel the time has come to see collaboration between local and state government to not only make this a priority, but to see an action plan.
According to Toowoomba City population, we have over 160,000 residents in Toowoomba being serviced by Milne Bay Aquatic Centre. This is considerably placing under additional demands to meet the needs of the community. A new facility in Westbrook will service not only Westbrook community but encompass Drayton, Glenvale, Wyreema, Cambooya and surrounds.
Now is the time for action; for a plan for new facility prior to the expansion of the Western Toowoomba region. And given the expected population growth predicted within the Westbrook and West Toowoomba area, a Community Centre / aquatic centre would add benefiits to the local and regional economy. Immediate residents would benefit from the health and fitness side of these facilities, provide avenues for financial investment, and collaboration within local groups, and supporting local businesses. These local facilities have also been identified as recomendations under the Neighbourhood Urban Activity Centres. Westbrook is expected to support most of the population growth up to 2031.
