The Minor in Possession charge in Oregon.
House Bill 2147, License Suspension upon conviction.
Generally a $300 fine and optional one day diversion.
Relatively recent (January 2008)

Without proper alcohol abuse treatment programs and the lack of driving privileges those convicted will probably continue drinking until they get their license back and may even feel more prone to drive while intoxicated.

Given the right tools (such as mandatory diversion) those convicted will have more of an opportunity to succeed in finding their niche in society without choosing to participate in underage drinking.

Without driving privileges it makes it more difficult for people to live up to their potential. People are more prone to go to school and get a job 5 miles away if they have reliable transportation.

If someone gets an mip or two when they are 19 or 20; They will get their license back a few months before turning 21. Isn't that something we want to avoid?

The youth who are responsible enough to have gotten their license before the legal drinking age should not have to lose it. Generally those are the ones that have the drive to become a successful functioning member of society.

People with DUI's don't always get their license suspended.

Why should those with a clean driving record have their privileges revoked instead of having more strict alcohol abuse treatment programs?

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose suspending the driving privileges of those convicted of an MIP (Minor in Possession.)

We strongly believe that there are other methods of addressing this problem (underage drinking) other than suspending the driving privileges of those convicted for a year.
