According to an online Guardian newspaper article, Acting Commissioner, Stephen Williams, has had over seven extensions, as Police commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago. The period is from 2012 to present (Guardian, 2016). Summarily, this amount to an approximate total of 5 years.

During this period, there has been no significant decrease in Crime such as murders. This type of crime is among those that are of grave concern to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. In fact, in his tenure, there has been an average of 1,994 murder in total. At this point, the only solution presented by Mr. Williams is to fire other 'top cops', but not himself. When, according to the constitution, he is among those that are primarily responsible for the police service.
Is is my opinion that Mr. Stephen Williams takes the advice of the United States Ambassador, and fire himself. His probation period is over. It has been more than surpassed. He has had five years of practice, and has ultimately failed his country. It is time that someone else be given the responsibility to address our concerns on the high murder rates, and the increase kidnapping rates in our country.

As a responsible citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, I have looked at the high rates of murder, and an increasing statistic of kidnapping and I am dissatisfied. Therefore, I choose to exercise my right in this democracy to sign this petition which asks the Acting Police Commissioner to fire himself or resign from the post of the Commissioner of Police.
