To: Everyone who values Democracy and Freedom of Speech

I am a Canadian Senior Citizen who is voicing an opinion to all citizens, of ALL nations, who value democracy and freedom of speech.

In every debate and speech of the three main contenders for the next Prime Minister of Canada, Harper, Trudeau, and Mulcair, I have heard promises amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions for the middle class. But remember, the middle class will be Senior Citizens someday and suffer the same fate as millions of starving and neglected seniors and veterans in Canada of today. Below is a copy of my latest bank statement which shows the Canadian Old Age Security (OAS), the Canadian Pension (CPP), and the Alberta Income Supplement payments I receive monthly. I have exhausted all my savings and RRSP's to provide for the other essentials of life such as food and medication.

As you can see by the statement, pensions only cover my housing, my property taxes, utilities (Alta Gas, Direct Energy, Water[$80]), $20 for telephone and bank account charge. I am left with $6.01 for all other essential needs of life to last for one month. After going without a thyroid medication for two weeks because of lack of funds, I explained my situation to a Walmart pharmacist who immediately witnessed my medical distress and issued me an advance of medication. On a previous occasion, I went to the Alberta Social Services for assistance but was told that “you are a senior over 65 and not our problem” . And on yet another occasion when I attended an information session given by a Federal government employee on benefits, I was told that if I had one drop of Native American blood in my body or if I was a refugee, I would qualify for all kinds of benefits and assistance? I am by no means racist but these two incidents were extremely offensive to me. Does our Government really care about its citizens or is it only to get their vote to gain power and then not deliver on their promises? In the Canadian (Federal and Provincial) Governments eyes, are we not ALL equal and ALL deserving of the same rights and benefits. Unless, of course, you are a criminal (drug dealer, rapist, and other) and fall under the rights of the “Canadian Constitution” and have the Canadian taxpayer (citizens) pay 100 % of all your essentials of life (albeit behind bars) or a politician who receives a “golden” pension.

All who read this letter, pause for a moment and think about what I say: then, YOU be the judge in the next election. Never forget one thing ,whether you are a new voter (incl. students) or young and older adults (the middle class that all the politicians are referring to) you will ALL be senior citizens one day. And perhaps, by then, you might have to wait until you are 70 or more years old to receive YOUR pension. And what about YOUR children?

If I had the financial means to run in the election for the position of Prime Minister of Canada, I would not make promises to give one specific class of people more advantage over another or “buy” their vote. Every Canadian citizen deserves EQUAL respect and benefits that this great country has to offer. I would not promise billions to specific classes and put this country DEEPER in debt. We need a politician who is a visionary and treats all classes and races as equals. Perhaps a single mother with children who knows how to balance a budget for survival would make a good Prime Minister. MY promise to the Canadian people, if I was elected, would be as a famous politician once said (quoted in part) and made good HIS promise to HIS citizens: "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth” .
