On Christmas 2008, my daughter Sarah Marie Ernst was shot and killed, she was only 18 years old. She was sitting inside her SUV, at friend's family Christmas party. Two teenagers, one of them being Anthony Echevarria, mistook her vehicle as a rival gang member's and started shooting at it. We truly don't know which one fired the fatal shot, they both shared the same gun. Therefore, they were both convicted of Murder in the 2nd Degree.
Because Anthony Echevarria was only 15 years old at the time of his crime, he was tried as a minor and was sentenced to a pitiful 3 to 10 years. The other convicted was 18 years old and sentenced as an adult, he received a 30 year sentence and 10 years parole. Sarah was killed 27 months ago, Anthony Echevarria is now up for parole in a mere 9 months. He will be going before the New York State Parole Board in Dec. 2011 and we need to make sure the Parole Board enforces his entire sentence of 10 years. Not only because Sarah deserves justice, but for the safety of our community as a whole.
We, the undersigned, call on the New York State Board of Parole to ensure Anthony Echevarria completes his entire sentence of 10 years in prison for Murder in the 2nd Degree of 18 year old Sarah Marie Ernst, and not be released on parole after a mere 3 years served.
