Immunizations have been proven to improve healthcare and reduce healthcare costs. Current law in Indiana allows pharmacists to administer the influenza vaccine via a protocol to individuals age 14 and above.
Pharmacists may also administer the shingles and pneumonia vaccines, but only if a prescription is presented. In order to increase the access of immunizations and ensure patients receive optimal care, HB 1034 would allow pharmacists, under protocol, to administer the influenza, shingles, and pneumonia vaccines to individuals age 9 and above.
