Dekalb County is in the process of evaluating redistricting plans for the entire county.
Various redistricting options have been proposed to the county that would remove the Greater Branches neighborhood from the Austin school district.
Please consider signing this petition in support of keeping the Greater Branches neighborhood (including Dunwoody Station, Sedgefield, Trailridge, Dunwoody West, Mt. Vernon Estates and the Branches) in the Austin Elementary School district for the following reasons:
1. Minimizes the disruption of the 150 elementary school aged children who reside in the Branches and represent 25% of the Austin student community as a whole.
2. Maintains geographic proximity and traffic patterns. Austin is the closest geographically located elementary school for the Branches neighborhood. A potential change would require crossing several major roads currently not utilized by a broad majority of the neighborhood and result in crossing natural boundaries. Geographical proximity was the #1 criteria utilized by the county and MGT consulting to establish the new attendance zones.
3. Supports community cohesion by maintaining intact neighborhoods.
This petition will be delivered to the appropriate representatives at Dekalb County to make our neighborhood's opinion heard.
