Please could you look into setting up a Fraunhofer Society to develop the UK's applied research base using both private companies and grants from central government. I know in this time of cuts it may be hard but to stop a brain drain of scientists. We have to look to the future.
Britain has a strong base in pharmacy or advanced engineering. If we could use this to develop our economy to the next level. It may take a long time. But it has developed Germany into Europe's leading manufacturing centre. Let's make Britain into Europe's Science and technology centre.
