The NSW State government is trying to rush laws through parliament to create development laws with authority to compulsorily acquire and rezone privately owned land for resale to developers.

“Compulsory acquisition might be part of the future.” Premier Kristina Keneally, Sky News, 12 March 2010

NSW Labor is planning to allow people's homes in the Cabramatta-Fairfield region to be compulsorily acquired and re-sold to developers.

The Australian Republic Party is very concerned with this development and will lobby government to ensure such laws that take away a person's family home are never passed in NSW.

Help us tell the NSW Government that these laws are completely unacceptable.

Dear Kristina Keneally,

We the Australia Republic Party and the enclosed signatory list ask that you cease plans to pass laws through parliament allowing the compulsorily acquisition of homes for development purposes.

No government should have the right to take away somebody's family home under these circumstances. This decision takes away NSW residents civil right to own and keep their beloved family home. A home which often houses great memories and is more then just a piece of land that you can come along and rip away from people.

We demand that you re-consider these plans and look into other alternatives to develop land across Sydney. This plan is unacceptable and should be abolished.

We expect that you will take this letter seriously and act on it as a matter of urgency.

Kind Regards

Australian Republic Party and attached signatories.
