Petition for Academic Amnesty in the Event of a Strike at Carleton University
- Target:
- Carleton University Senate

- Canada

While three major unions on campus are moving towards a legal strike position as early as mid-November, the university administration has not been forthcoming regarding its treatment of students in the event of a strike.
A failure by the university administration to divulge their contingency plans has contributed to a growing sense of uncertainty, raising the concern that thousands of students will not be able to complete their academic terms.
- We call on the university administration to make public their contingency plans to ensure that students do not face undue hardship as the result of any strike or lock-out.
- We call on the Senate to grant academic amnesty for the duration of any strike or lock-out to all students.
- We demand that no student be penalized for not attending class or submitting academic assignments during the course of a strike or lock-out.
- We ask that students be granted extensions on academic assignments and tests originally scheduled for the time period immediately following the conclusions of a strike or lock-out.
