My name is Alec from the Geelong skateshop and I speak on behalf of the youth who use the skate facility down at the waterfront. We are all very happy with what you have provided for us, but there is a crucial part of a skate park that we are missing. The skate park has no transition. I know that the skate park is a great design to look at but I believe more people would use the facility if some transition was put in.

Since the facility has been built every skateboarder I have talked to has said the same thing. They all love the skate park but it’s missing that aspect of transition. If say a mini ramp was to be built at the facility it would bring in all different types of skaters and everyone would enjoy the facility a lot more. Kids who are learning how to skate need to learn how to skate everything to be good at what they’re doing. And when they learn they’ll have more fun because they can use all the skate park fluently.

If we want to skate transition we have to travel all the way over to Waurn Ponds facility. And if kids want to learn how to skate transition, they usually have to find their own way out there, like by bus or train to Marshall. And public transport can be quite dangerous for kids.

Basically by putting a mini ramp or a few quarter pipes in the facility it would increase the usage of the park to its full extent. It would not be an expensive project and the outcome would be well worth it. It would create a better environment for the kids and help their productivity in skateboarding, and a lot of the older guys love to skate transition so we would see a lot of the younger kid’s parents getting more involved. That means kids would be a lot safer and they would have more experienced skaters there to give them tips and help their productivity.

I know that the skating community of Geelong would be more than happy to help design these improvements and do everything in their power to make it happen. There is more than enough room at the facility to make these changes happen.
